Storage-first Orbital Data Centres
AS23.Space Technologies is developing Orbital Data Centres (ODCs) interconnected compute + storage nodes in orbit, starting with PB1, our high-density storage foundation.
- PB1 foundation: high-density storage designed for orbital compute
- ODC roadmap: node → constellation services (2030+)
- Partner-led build: collaboration across compute, comms, and software orchestration
What we’re building
Two building blocks PB1 (storage) and ODC (constellation architecture) delivered through a partner-led programme.
PB1 — storage foundation for orbital compute
- High-density, software-defined NVMe storage in a compact form factor
- SDHA control model optimises Power / Endurance / Integrity
- Designed to scale into ODC nodes and constellation services
ODC — sovereign orbital data centre constellation
- Distributed nodes connected by high-speed links
- Compute + storage + edge for autonomous operations
- Multi-client services roadmap (2030+)
Why now: the orbital data bottleneck
Downlink is the constraint
Modern missions generate more data than practical downlink can move. Storage + in-orbit processing reduces dependency on ground loops.
Power and thermal limits drive new architectures
In orbit, efficiency matters. Autonomy requires storage that can adapt to workload and power availability.
Security, sovereignty, resilience
As space becomes critical infrastructure, secure and verifiable data services become essential for commercial and public sector users.
PB1 SDHA: the triple-loop advantage
PB1 uses Software-Defined Hardware Architecture (SDHA) to manage large NVMe pools as one software-defined system.
Power Loop
- Dynamically reduces energy use by parking inactive capacity
- Improves thermal stability and efficiency for power-limited missions
Endurance Loop
- Tier-aware placement extends SSD service life under variable workloads
- Automated balancing reduces maintenance and replacement cycles
Security Loop
- Verifiable data handling with automated detection + recovery workflows
- Designed for resilience in harsh environments and degraded comms windows
Roadmap: PB1 → ODC Node → Constellation
2026 — PB1 SDHA Lab Demonstrator
Validate triple-loop control with measurable evidence (power logs, thermal logs, endurance counters, integrity events, runbook).
Next — ODC Node Prototype
Integrate compute + PB1 storage + orchestration for multi-client service readiness.
2030+ — Constellation Services
Interconnected nodes delivering orbital data services at scale: storage pools, compute workloads, and partner application ecosystem.
